Published: September 29 2021

Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole is the UK’s newest city region, with a population of 400,000 and a fast-growing economy. FuturePlaces is the new urban regeneration company that is leading a new and innovative approach to development and investment across the area.

Affordable new homes in vibrant neighbourhoods where local families have good livelihoods and where businesses thrive, are at the centre of the new approach to regeneration being driven forward by BCP Council.

11 regeneration sites with a gross development value of over £2bn, and with the potential to deliver 3500 new homes are being brought forward for investment under the new model.

Taking forward its regeneration plans the council has set up ‘FuturePlaces’ a new urban regeneration company to lead the development of council owned sites.

Backed by an initial local authority investment of £2million the wholly owned company will boost the region’s regeneration capacity and drive the conurbation’s investment opportunities.

Plans include the south west’s largest brownfield regeneration site at Holes Bay, the Wessex Fields Medtech Park and proposals to replace the Bournemouth International Centre with a modern, state of the art facility.

Some of the UK’s leading talent in urban regeneration and placemaking has been brought in to start the development management process to deliver over 15,000 new homes and develop commercial sites that will attract knowledge intensive high-tech businesses, and enable already established companies to grow their presence in the city region, creating jobs and the region’s future prosperity.

FuturePlaces will engage with public and private development partners leveraging the council’s investment through collaboration; creating joint ventures and investment to unlock the city region’s huge potential.

The scale of ambition is evidenced in the council’s Big Plan, its £50 million Futures Fund for infrastructure investment will support the creation of 13,000 jobs and more than £3 billion of investment value for the region.

Recognised as a place where innovation and culture meet modernity and heritage, city scene meets coast and country, creativity meets digital, businesses flourish and people thrive, the Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole city region is the place where people and businesses have access to the lifestyles and cultural amenities they expect from a modern urban area.

As the 10th largest urban local authority in the UK the Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole city region offers a globally-recognised coastline of opportunity where people love to live, learn, work, explore, invent, relax and play it’s no surprise it’s the best in Britain.

Now is the right time to invest with ambition, as the council and FuturePlaces drive forward plans for building new homes, creating new jobs, investing in digital infrastructure; rebuilding out of the pandemic and driving regeneration across the conurbation at pace.
